Northwestern Mutual Hears Stories of Acceptance

November 7, 2014

We’re excited to be partnering with Northwestern Mutual on Acceptance Journeys, a program that works to increase love, acceptance, and support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

Northwestern Mutual invited us to present about the program to their LGBT-A employee resource group (ERG). Over 120 people attended the video conference at the two campuses in downtown Milwaukee and Franklin. Our presenters, Kofi, Chris, and Nicole, explained how the program uses social marketing approaches like billboards, public presentations, and print materials to change attitudes about LGBTQ people, leading to better support, and ultimately, better health for our communities.

Northwestern Mutual employees started their ERG within the past year and already have 322 members. The Northwestern Mutual Foundation supported Acceptance Journeys with a grant of $5,000 this year. Their gift helped us launch a new online portal where community members can share their own stories of love and acceptance: www.diverseandresilient.org/share.
