SHEBA (Sisters Helping Each Other Battle AIDS)

SHEBA (Sisters Helping Each other Battle AIDS) is a group of nearly 20 African American transgender women that meets biweekly for leadership development, health promotion activities, and social support. Leadership development methods include education and training on small group facilitation, how to do outreach and advocacy to others in regards to HIV prevention, communicating specific messages, and how to see themselves as leaders.

Ongoing support methods for this project include the biweekly social and educational discussion groups facilitated by Diverse and Resilient staff and SHEBA members. These groups have educational presentations and discussion questions to support health education and promotion.

In addition to group support, this project will provide advocacy and support for individual transitions by assisting each SHEBA member to create self-empowerment goals regarding their health choices, their employment, and their transgender female community.
