It’s About Us
This site contains HIV prevention messages that may not be appropriate for all audiences.
It’s About Us uses role model stories to promote condom use, leading to decreased HIV transmission among young African American gay and bisexual men and young transgender women.
We interview members of the population who have made positive behavior change and use these interviews to create fictionalized stories based on their accounts. Stories are printed on a series of cards and distributed to the community at social venues and community organizations. We also recruit peer Advocates from the community and train them to distribute stories to their social networks through house party discussions and in one-on-one conversation.
Sexual health is often not discussed openly. It’s About Us role model stories open the door to conversations about safe sex, condom use, relationships, and HIV. They help move the entire community toward a set of healthier behaviors, ultimately leading to decreased transmission of HIV.
Story cards are currently being produced in both English and Spanish language.
