Angelique Harris, PhD: Board Vice Chair

Dr. Angelique Harris is director of the Center for Gender and Sexualities Studies and the Gender and Sexualities Studies Program, and she is an associate professor of sociology in the Department of Social and Cultural Sciences at Marquette University.  Her research examines social problems and issues within marginalized communities—primarily focusing on the experiences of women, people of color, and LGBTQ+ communities.  Her research and teaching interests include the sociology of health and illness, race and ethnicity, gender and sexualities, the sociology of religion, urban studies, media studies, and social movements.  Along with dozens of articles and book chapters, Angie has authored and co-authored several books on LGBTQ+ communities of color.  She has her B.A. in social psychology and her M.A. in applied sociology from the University of Massachusetts Boston.  She also has an M.A. in sociology from Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY) as well as her M.Phil. in sociology and her Ph.D. in sociology from the Graduate Center, CUNY.
