In 2004, the Wisconsin AIDS Fund will support Diverse and Resilient youth programming with a grant of $5,000.00 to be used for our Summer Leadership Intensive. This 5-day program will focus on the leadership development of a small number of young people who are taking on additional responsibilities in their community-based youth groups.
During this summer project, youth will be addressing their needs in HIV prevention, sexuality education, peer education strategies, public relations, and personal support systems. The goals of the project are to build capacity of members of the Rainbow Alliance for Youth and to build a new cadre of leaders who will organize the next generation of youth committed to ending HIV transmission.
Youth who want to attend this Intensive will apply through their Rainbow Alliance for Youth member groups. They will also be applying in pairs. This method is intended to assure greater follow through on the various skills developed during the Intensive. Participants are expected to communicate regularly via a web-based forum exclusively for them.
Youth interested in attending Intensive are encouraged to contact their local youth development specialist or call the Diverse and Resilient office at 414-390-0444.
Upon receiving notice of the award, Mark O’Neil, Program Coordinator, said, “The Wisconsin AIDS Fund has again put its resources into a long-term strategy that will sustain this important work of HIV prevention in the future.”
