Mpowerment
Mpowerment brings together a small group of young people called the Core Group Leaders who help plan small and large outreach events within their community that are designed around a theme of HIV and STI prevention. In addition to the Core Group, Mpowerment includes what are called Mgroups. These are single-session interventions where participants learn risk reduction strategies and ways to talk to their friends about sex and how to protect themselves against HIV and STIs.
Diverse & Resilient’s adaptation of Mpowerment is designed for gay and bisexual youth between the ages of 14 and 20. The focus of this project is to reach youth who do not know their HIV status, reducing their risk factors, and guiding them into HIV testing services. While Mpowerment’s target population is young gay and bisexual men, the outreach events and Mgroups will be open to all LGBT youth ages 14 to 20.
Diverse & Resilient will begin the Mpowerment program in Summer 2012. Mpowerment is an evidence-based intervention that focuses on strengthening an entire community through diffusion of ideas.
