BUILD
BUILD stands for Brothers United In Leadership Development, and is a partnership between Diverse & Resilient and leaders within Milwaukee’s African American gay and bisexual community. BUILD allows community leaders to take a more prominent role in their own development as leaders in Milwaukee’s LGBT community and the greater African American community. The members of BUILD have taken action by joining the boards of prominent community organizations, building visibility for gay and bisexual men in the African American community, and spreading messages on safer sex and HIV prevention.
BUILD meets once a month at Diverse & Resilient to discuss current topics affecting African American gay and bisexual men and to strategize methods to address issues in the community. The members of BUILD also organize bi-annual retreats, offering them an opportunity to build leadership skills.
