What
your donation does
Even though it may be obvious, it is worth stating.
Your donation to Diverse and Resilient
supports our mission of healthier tomorrows for
all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people
in Wisconsin. So every dollar you give is really
an investment in the everyday lives and futures
of the LGBT people in your community - that translates
into a stronger Wisconsin.
Your
donation supports capacity-building. In 2003,
D&R will host 2 two-day workshops for
leaders of LGBT youth groups to increase their
skills in fostering development of the young people
with whom they work. We will also facilitate our
signature event, The Wisconsin Youth HIV Prevention
Institute - a three-day workshop in Whitewater
that prepares 60 youth leaders to further the
important work of HIV prevention through peer
education. Two new groups are being brought into
the
Rainbow Alliance for Youth, our statewide
network of excellent youth groups. New this year,
we will also be hosting forums for transgender
people, for women, and for men on their emerging
health needs.
Your
donation supports healthy development. The work
of Diverse and Resilient is based on the
premise that as human beings, gay, lesbian, bisexual,
and transgender people are good. They are African-American,
Latina/o, Asian, Native American, and European
Heritage. They have disabilities and are able-bodied;
they are young, old, female, transgender, and
male.
They
are deeply connected to one another and to other
people who identify as heterosexual or who do
not identify based on sexual orientation. They
are intelligent, powerful, beautiful people who,
like all other people, deserve opportunities to
flourish in safe, health-promoting environments.
The
individuals, leadership, and organizations in
LGBT communities around the state are made aware
of these health and development messages through
the efforts of Diverse and Resilient.
Your
donation supports advocacy. Diverse and Resilient
positions itself in the arenas of government,
philanthropy, and social services to increase
awareness and promote right action for LGBT people
in Wisconsin. We serve as a lever to increase
and to direct funding that supports local LGBT
organizations. We assist decision makers in understanding
issues and directly meeting with LGBT organizational
leadership. We move a health and development agenda
forward in both the broader community and within
the LGBT communities.
Your
donation supports justice. When you contribute
to Diverse and Resilient, you are clearly
taking a stand for LGBT youth, adults, and elders.
You are also taking a stand moving away from the
rejection and avoidance that still too often characterizes
reactions to LGBT people and causes. Diverse
and Resilient works to have LGBT people everywhere
being accepted as strong contributors to society
and being appreciated for our unique and valuable
assets.
You
are also taking a stand for all people in Wisconsin;
we will only become stronger, more accepting,
and more alive when lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
transgender people are afforded their full rights
to be completely involved in the fabric of our
communities.

Foundations
and Major Donors
Diverse and Resilient has earned the trust
and support of both foundations and individuals.
These include family, corporate and community
foundations who believe in our mission and the
vital services we provide. Diverse and Resilient
counts on this generosity to help fund many of
our programs - from increasing the capacity of
communities to address the needs of LGBT youth
to creating a vision for the healthy development
of all LGBT people. Though Diverse and Resilient
enjoys significant support from the Wisconsin
Department of Health and Family Services,
these service grants provide only the basic funding
for critical HIV prevention efforts. Other critical
projects that address the developmental needs
of our community are not covered through state
funding.
Listed
below are grants of $1,000 or more D&R
has received recently. We are grateful to these
