Diverse
and Resilient, Inc. is a nonprofit organization
whose mission is the healthy development
of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender
(LGBT) people in Wisconsin through the development
of groups and communities to take action.
The organization's name is intended to serve
as reminder that LGBT people are everywhere,
engage in interesting and meaningful lives,
and contribute to the welfare of each other
and the broader community.
Since its inception in 1995, Diverse
and Resilient has held statewide conferences,
two four-day youth institutes, five regional
trainings, three regional consultations,
over thirty leadership meetings, and countless
one-on-one and group consultations. Diverse
and Resilient serves as a catalyst to
help LGBT youth groups get started, and
continue to thrive, by providing mini-grants,
consultations, adult and youth leadership
training, and leadership coaching. Further,
Diverse and Resilient provides resources
for program evaluation, policy development,
and program alignment with a broad health
and development agenda.

Salute to SHEBA

In the greatest speech of our time, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said that he was “not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow jail cells. And some of you have come from areas where your quest -- quest for freedom left you battered by the storms of persecution.”
Dr. King was observing and celebrating the courage of those who went through so much to get there -- to survive. He called those assembled “veterans of creative suffering” and asked that they not “wallow in the valley of despair.”
